Great Missenden Parish Council is pleased to confirm the completion of improvements to outdoor play and recreation facilities at Prestwood Recreation Ground and Buryfield Adventure Play Area, Great Missenden, helping to enhance access, play provision and opportunities for physical activity across the parish.
Following the Parish Council’s acquisition of a 30-year lease for Prestwood Recreation Ground, adjacent to Prestwood Common, a programme of improvements was developed in response to community feedback. A new multiplay unit has been installed to complement the existing play area. In addition, a new perimeter path has been constructed around Prestwood Recreation Ground and linked to the existing path around Prestwood Common. This has created a continuous, accessible circular route that can be enjoyed year-round, particularly during wetter months when grassed areas become muddy. The path benefits walkers, runners, families, dog walkers, wheelchair users and those with mobility impairments, as well as supporters of local junior football teams.
At the same time, similar improvements have been delivered at Buryfield Adventure Play Area in Great Missenden, where the Parish Council has installed the same multiplay equipment and completed a new path around the Buryfield.
The path has significantly improved accessibility at Buryfield, making the field more inclusive and easier to use for residents of all ages and abilities, while encouraging active lifestyles and greater use of this important green space. The replacement play equipment has provided an more up to date and challenging space for younger children.

The Parish Council funded a large proportion of the project costs, alongside generous contributions from the Missendens Community Board, Align JV, and Stoke Mandeville & Other Parishes Trust, for which the Council is extremely grateful. This support has played a vital role in enabling the delivery of these improvements for the benefit of the whole community.
